Hi everyone, recently joined as I have just bought myself another Discovery. Thinking of joining all three to make one good one :confused:.
The latest has a couple of faults. Been booked into the garage as I thought it may be the head gasket, appears not (thankfully, I hope!).
The fan works but no heat. Temperature guage doesn't go up dangerously high. The water fills up the reservoir and overflows. Also it's really slow compared to the others, slight understatement; it's pretty gutless.
On the plus side it doesn't use oil, though I'm sure it's just a matter of time...
Am driving a Corsa:( until the problem is solved so please please some advice. Can't get it booked in to a LandRover garage until next Monday, my local garage can't figure it out.
Also, I can manage to do basic services but that's where my talents end so laymans terms would be appreciated.:doh:
Thanks in advance for any advice, Elle:cheer2:

First things i would check would be header tank cap (is it letting air in) and check for leaks in the rest of the cooling system (mates Audi had a very small leak in the rad which caused water to p1ss out the header tank)

Working on the basis that the garage is right - no head gasket problem - I would have thought the next thing to stop any heat and pressurise the coolant to it overflows would be airlock somewhere in the cooling system.

Or water pump faulty.

Or Thermostat not working..

Re the lack of performance can you give us some more info: year of vehicle; manual or auto?

Cheers
Dave

Thanks for your replies. I picked it up from the garage this pm. and drove home, about 8 miles, warm air from the fan. Popped the bonnet when I got home and water coming out of the reservoir cap. The insert inside the cap moves quite easily, checked the caps on the other discos and they don't. Put a different cap on, the water isn't pouring out now, more like froth. No hot air again though. It's been stood up for at least two months before I got it.

THEBIGLAD. re; the lack of power. It's an M reg 1995, manual. I have an L reg 200 and it can overtake in 5th, this thing I have to think twice before I overtake a pushbike. It's not too bad in a straight line from a stand still but if you let your foot off the throttle for a corner then try and accelerate away you have to go down a gear, if not two. I live in the country so have a lot of blind bends to slow down for.

There is obviously a problem with this motor. First things I would do are:

1. Change the air filter;

2. Change the fuel filter

3. Clean out the fuel sedimenter.
