ok so i have managed to get my defender home after it jammed in 4th gear.
was in low ratio, difflock in a muddy field, should have been in second but got fourth instead, stalled and jammed up gearbox.

my options are take it to local gearbox shop who will open it up and advise on the cost of repair.

buy a second hand and fit get back out on the road.

problem is all the LT77's for sale are from Discovery's.

i have always thought the long stick and short stick cannot be interchanged due to the position of the gear stick.
if i fitted the discovery with short stick the gear stick would be in the seat box. i am right with the logic?

then i get told yesterday it is ok, but i would need to change the bellhousing. as the v8 is shorter the gear stick position would be ok.

has anyone fitted the short stick in the defender without stripping the box to change the selector.

any guidance would be appreciated.

all v8 boxes like the tdi discovery box are longer you can on some defender lts ie 56a change input shaft but its a full strip down and then you need to convert gear stick on a disco box early rrc long stick will need a rebuild in any case because of sheer age, your best option is repairing yours
