Discovery 4 Cambelts - a reason not to buy?

D4 rear fuel belt is timed unlike on the D3.
I did my D3 myself, parts not silly expensive and once all the plastic out of the way not to hard at all, timing kits was 2 drill bits!
Assuming D4 belt change is same as D3? its 105k of 7 years whichever comes first.

thks and good to know , wasn’t sure 100% if it was timed or not

i didn’t have the experience to replace them myself and didn’t fancy messing around it, but know ur very knowledgeable when it comes to things like this :D:D

Nope I just bullshti and bluff my way through, its worked for 30 odd years so far:D
You will be surprised just how little pro mechanics actually know as they tend to do repetitive same old carp day after day and the brain switches off.

I have done loads of cambelts, this is one of the many reasons I like my wife a lot as she tends to buy cars that run camchains.

I could be wrong here but I only reckon the D4 belt is timed is the pressure/load is so high if the pump pumped at the wrong time in the engine cycle it could either sap power or make for an erratic idle.

lol, 31 x years and counting ;):D

as a side note i read this ref the timing , know ur understand it better than me

It seems that the later generation high pressure pumps have fewer pumping chambers, and the pump pressure 'pulses' have to be co-ordinated with injector firing pulses. this is to maintain the correct fuel rail pressure under all loads and conditions. Hence the need for timing marks on the belt/pulleys.

Wow. So different to the first belt I ever changed and that was an Austin Cambridge '64. blue with the cream stripe down the sides. Took the valves out and had them reground at 10 pence each. OD Motors on the Antrim Road, Belfast. 1971. Beautiful car - sold it for £65.
Blimey that brings back happy memories, I learned to drive in my mate Cambridge lovely dove grey one with an ivory stripe beautiful old car

It was also my dads first new car - maroon reg: JRE 345B. We thought we was posh..........and there was my old man. a factry worker in his new shiny car.

Nowadays an awful lot of people drive a new car, but nowadays you only have to afford the monthly payments and not the whole car (like your dad) and thats the way the world is heading.

Well if it all goes pearshaped diy, you can always call those lovely fellers at 5 Sunbeam St , Wolverhampton. Assuming they're not incarcerated, that is

I have done a Vauxhall V6 twice, quad cams and LOTs of pulleys
