please help me someone ..... Ive just got a discovery 300tdi and apart from the usual problems IE windows/rotted boot etc i have now noticed this very loud clonk when i turn the car off nothing while driving and happens probably 3 out of 5 times nothing when i start the car only when i turn it off but it is quite loud and is really worrying me as Ive only just bought it

its having a timming belt done next sunday will that help ? do i need to get anything else ? what part of exhaust could it be and worst case what could it cost or if left what damage could it cause
many thanks

It is the bottom pulley wheel on the front of the engine that drives the alternator, power steering pump and water pump.

Unless yet have the right tools it will be a garage check, or you could bribe an lz member with bacon sandwich's and mugs of tea

smart dog btw ive got 2 lol soo what do u think it might be then ?

Thanks he 7 month old :D

I think it might be the exhaust, may be just a rubber bush hanger ?
Get under the motor and get someone to turn it off and see if you can sees or here what's going on

Gotta agree with the exhaust being the possible culprit, as I've got the same "clunk" and have been under the Disco when engine is turned off and seen where it "knocks". Looks like tired rubber hangers to me. (Hopefully an issue that'll go away when I get time to fit the new exhaust...)

hi there its more than likely something very simple ! cam belt change will eliminate many things pulley etc but ! until you have gained enough experience id take it to a local engineer get it sorted and enjoy !! fixing these things is unlike any car realy , be safe !!! one life !! etc etc !!!!!!

lol ty just had cambelt done the crank pulley had a bit missing where the key goes but its still doing it but not when foot is on brake mmmmmm strange :confused:
