discovery 300 tdi auto, engine check light

can any one tell me if a discovery 300 tdi auto should have a engine check light that comes on with the ignition and goes out once the engine has started.

im currently having trouble starting and it has been suggested the lack of this light on mine may be the problem......

can any one shed any light on this for me ?

the light comes on with stage 2 ignition and you get a chime when it starts engine check and when it finishes engine check if the light dosen't come on check the bulb in dash but you should wait for the engine check to finish first or it will cancel and the engine check light will cancel straight away

Your truck is a 95my ? If the letter before the A and the last six numbers is M then you wont have a CEL as the injection system is still mechanically governed - not EDC.So it should start without glowplugs.
If I'm wrong and the VIN ends in TA123456 then yes you should have a CEL,and an EDC pump - which will need glowplugs to start from cold as the EDC pump seems to have a lower start quantity.Hope this makes sense.

so does this mean not fitted with edc sysyem and no engine check light?

and you were right all along with the fuel problem?
