Hi. Gonna have about 10k in the not to distant future to get myself a newer landy. Want either a disco 3 or range rover td6 l322. I know its probably a stupid question but which one is generally the more reliable/easiest to work on from a diy point of view etc. Sort of edging towards the range rover as no stupid electric parking brake or timing belts to worry about. Would like your opinions please . TIA

L322 is better on the wallet (going off dealer costs) for parts and the 3.6 - 4.4 are better drives than the 3.0 and the 2.7 is under powered for sucha heavy car, plus the arms are probably shot on a D3

Hi, After running a L322 for 5 years I can definitely confirm it is by far the better vehicle. Much as I love the Discovery the idea of having to take the body off to change a turbo is ridiculous. The Discovery is a seriously heavy vehicle and the 2.7 engine just isn't up to it. With well documented problems with seized arms and handbrake problems and broken crankshaft the Range Rover has to be the better bet.
I had the TD6 engine in my Rangie and in all honesty I wouldn't have another, the V8 diesel (post 2006) is a far better engine, smooth powerful and refined with the petrol's being even nicer if you have deep pockets. The earlier model (Diesel) suffers with premature gearbox failure from 70k and air suspension maladies are common, a decent diagnostic system is a must have. Save your pennies for a little longer and get a facelifted V8 Diesel vogue (£13k ish) you wont regret it. Hoping to get mine Saturday.
