I have over the years worked up from a 200tdi to a 300tdi and at present have a 51 plate TD5 ES. I am thinking of upgrading to the Discovery 3 probably an HSE model (I like my comforts) and was wondering if anyone had experience of all models and if they think it is worth changing to a 2nd hand 3

I have a friend who has a recent model se. It has a six speed auto and is a dream to drive. It get stuck easier then the older models though bot that seems purely because of weight not ability. Very plush with plenty of space inside but not a good one for pioneer green laning as the scratches show easily in the thin paint. A good move was when he fitted general Grabber AT2 tires - no extra noise but a lot more grip. Get it chipped and its a nice machine - Niggles aside I am dead jealous and its way better than my 03 es auto td5.

You could pick a lot of car up for your money with the D3.
I got offered a nearly 3 year old HSE with 60k on the clock for £ 14000 .
The high price of diesel is hitting them hard.
You might, if your lucky, get 25/26 to the gallon, but a more likely average is 22/23 !.
Its a bit of a drop against the manual TD 5.

Nice motor though !.

had one as a courtesy car from harwoods really did not want to give it back they are falling in price now and you can pick them up at some shocking prices:D

Got a TDV6 HSE, had it remapped by Torqtune and its a real flyer. They are weighty, so If you want to get it muddy ditch the standard road tyre. Goodyear MTR's look real good on the HSE rims, and grip like **** to a quilt. Absolutely love mine. Even with MTR's its so quiet and comfortable I actually look forward to long journeys.

What's the fuel consumption like - I travel around 12k a year mostly on motorways but lately with fuel costs have put the sensible head on and now drive 55 - 65mph carefully. I reckon I'm averaging around the 30mpg mark in the TD5
