Discovery 2015 stuck in drive

Hi I have a 2015 discover 4 stuck in drive for 3 days in a public car park and needs moved asap. I had just booked a service the night before when it flashed up on the dash one was required but obviously never got that far! Dash is now showing batter is now low. The red lever under cup holder is not releasing the choice of gear out of d to allow for towing so just wondering if this is dependant on battery strength and if the suggested problem of a stuck rotary module could be something more serious and super expensive? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Could be anything, will need codes reading.
Battery is always a good starting point.
Recovery people will be able to move it even with all 4 wheels locked.

It could very easily be a knackered battery.
Thought the lever was a mechanical thing? so are you pulling it hard enough. Are you sure its the right 1 and its not the EPB you are releasing?
Not sure on your model but eh L322 has 2, 1 for EPB and something else to get to N, If I remember right.

If its only stuck in D it could be pulled on a truck/trailer with no issue.

I think D4 went rotary selector 2012 onwards when the 8 speed box came out.

Yes, and without checking my manual. I am sure there are 2 functions, EPB & Neutral.
But if its in D it will pull on a trailer or truck with no issue.

Oh and the OP is talking about whats under the cup holder.

Tbh I have no idea on the gear selector over ride.

Gear knob can still turn when retracted, it’s not easy tho

Hi there,
I ended up with my discovery 4 stuck in gear and the emergency release cable did not seem to do anything i called out the rac and the guy that came said that most people who try to release it say the same that there is a problem with it when there is not he went back to his van and came back with a two foot scocket extension he put it through the eye on the cable and pelled as hard as he could and notheng happend then he climed onto the passenger seat kneeling down and tried again to pull as hard as he could and at a face on fire it moved a couple of inches at that i managed to get going and drove down to the garage i use and left it with them and after a few £100's later got it back and nothing has gone wrong again it is now around 3 years ago and all is well, so lesson learnt you cannot pull to hard on the cable with your hands.

Yep...getting any vehicle on to a Recovery truck is usually no great problem.

Getting it off might require a handy tree!!
