As per title I have had no handbrake for a few weeks now on my 2000 model manual Td5 and I have just got around to adjustng the handbrake cable and the drum nut on the back itself and yes this made a difference but for a short period. Now I am new to land rovers but there seems to be oil / transmission leaking into the drum and I am assuming contaminaing my shoes within and hence no handbrake. Is there a seal that I need to renew to stop the leaking? and any advice and pic's on how to do it or a guide

Many thanks

James

Yes you are right. look at Buster Bus repair guide. get a repair manual. But first check the fluid level in your transmission as you will need replacing to if it runs out of oil or very low, as the bearing won't get proper lube

Good luck and:welcome2:

Cheers I have the Haynes guide but doesn't seem to show what I am looking for. I will check level in a mo. Does anyone know the part number of what I need? or best place to get it from?

Refit the other way around

pack rear of seal with grease or similar to hold garter spring in place or it will leak again, seal between flange and washer with silicone sealant they can leak down shaft

Well had a crack at doing this last night wish I had raised the rear of the car on axle stands or ramps as I only raised the rear end on the air suspension and then disconnected battery and it stayed at height but not much room to work under. I ended up taking of the 4 bolts for the prop shaft and moving to one side and my drum within lets say was 3 x worse than the link to the discovery2 dite guide it was covered in handfall's of black gunk within no wonder the bloody handbrake didn't work:eek:. I removed the entire handbrake system including the backplate as found it awkward to get the little zinc retaining bars and there clips in place with it on the vehicle. Anyway a few hours later most of that spent cleaning it all up and it's all back on the car with new shoes, new seal, new spring's and handbrake cable all back on. Only prob now is the drum adjuster isn't tightening the shoes, I think the triangular adjuster bolt isn't sitting properly due to my father in law doing the bolt the wrong way and has made it to loose that it will not sit in the correct position. So tonight's job I will do myself I think so only me to blame if something goes wrong :biggrin1:

Many thanks for all the advice the links and info provided was ver very useful
