Hi guys. Ive got a 2000 Disco 2 V8 auto.
It has a fault whereby the starter operates with the gear selector lever in all positions. I suspected the XYZ switch so I swapped it out for a known good one.
It still has the fault.
Has anyone got a circuit diagram that would help me identify where the problem lies.
Update I found a wiring diagram.
I also found that some eegit had earthed the starter relay at the fuse box under the bonnet.
There was no apparent reason for this erroneous earth, all good now.

The starter relay's earth path is managed by the BCU, if it was the XYZ switch's contact stuck in P it would have make you more serious trouble, maybe there was a, immobiliser problem or something which made the previous owner to connect earth directly to the relay's coil... remove the starter relay and check with multimeter if you have earth on the coil(in one of the parallel cavities)... if you have earth with ignition off it means it's a bodge but i'm sure it was a reason for that so simply eliminating it might not help... it should be an ignition interlock too as to prevent that... download and install disc 1 and you have everything there: http://www.myrangerover.co.uk/rave-workshop-manual/

Well I got an original set of circuit diagrams. As suspected my car had been bodged. There was an extra earth added to the starter relay. I removed it and rechecked. All good now. Only starts in P or N. No idea why it had been bodged.
