Discovery 2 Rear Seats 6th+7th

Neither of the rear seats were operational on my 2000MY Disco2.

Today I have managed to make one perfect one from two. A spring was missing on the link between the cams on the "leg" - and some other parts needed lubricating.

On the second seat things dont look so great. The spring is now missing, and the plastic lever for the upper folding part of the seat is cracked. - so will need these two parts.

My main worry is with one of the cams in the larger "leg" assembly. The front cam, that physically locks into the floor feels very loose. It should normally interact with the cable assembly (looking at the other seat). This is not happening on the second seat.

There are two nuts and bolts that can be removed, and small bushes fitted on these - not gone any further - because got stuck :)

If this assembly can be removed - possibly this cam can be replaced - or its issues resolved.

If not and this is where the question is - what spares are available for fixing these parts? Can each bit able to be ordered seperately - or is it large parts only - and expensive pieces! Any help would be appreciated - any links to any info would be helpful.

I'd guess that spares for the seats themselves is a bit of a lottery, but the complete seats do come up on ebay if you get stuck.

Try your local Dealer to see what they can look up, if the stores guy is good, he'll be able to tell you straight away.

We have the rear seats in our 2000 Disco 2 V8, but it was built as a 5-seater, and without air suspension it is technically illegal (Type approval for the 7-seater was with air, not coil springs)

Technically, yes.

In practice, nobody seems to take any notice. Ours passed its MOT last week with no comment.

The guy who coded our keys that morning said that they were treated as 'occasional' seats and not full-time seats.

What it means is the Discovery II on coils is not type-approved for 7 seats, so if you put them in and there is ever an accident, your insurance company could bail-out on you :eek::eek:
 
Dealer has been very helpful, but lets just say the parts from land rover are more like assemblies - and small parts are not forthcoming. One of the most common parts to go wrong - the "leg" or "latch" is also one of the most expensive....

and the little lever on the side to lower the back rest...almost 20.00 - not so good.

The back of the seats that always get damaged and scratched only 21.00!!

Why is it that the bits you think will be expensive are not, and the ones you think must be cheap are horrific?

I'm awaiting a ruling from our own insurers on the matter.

What clouds the issue is:

1) Was the vehicle registered with 5 or 7 seats?
2) Land Rover sold the seats as an accessory pack for retro-fitting.
3) As long as the seats and belts pass the MOT inspection, there should be no insurance come-back.

I'll report back once I have had a response.

Spoke with our insurance broker again today, he said that as far as he could see, the vehicle premium was not loaded for the extra 2 seats, and therefore he could change my vehicle details on-screen without requiring any extra premium, which he then did.

The fact that LR supply the seats as kits for retro-fitting also indicated that there would be no problem.

His view was that you should declare the seats on the vehicle and then there should be no comebacks.

Managed to locate a New old stock seat of the right hand - so I am all sorted. It looks like the best option if you have a mechanism failure is to rob from another seat as parts from the dealer are not available individually.

I have also ordered a seat back for the other seat, as these were cheap and get rid of the multitude of scars I had on mine! Hopefully will be a good job.

I subsequently have some "spares" off my old seat...so if anyone needs little parts that are not available from the stealers...let me know, and i just maybe able to help. Its a grey leather seat.
