had a funny feeling that my disco was slowly getting lower at the rear
over say a week or so.. so pressed the off road button to lift it, nothing happened just kept flashing on the dash board, so i helped it with my hi lift jack on the tow bar up to the off road hight the light stoped flashing,so sprayed washing up liquid on the air bags each side no leaks but they felt hard as if they had good air in them, any way now lowered the jack its now on the bump stops, cant get my hand in on top of the wheel its that low any ideas pls thanks woody..

I had the same thing its the bags probably both of them have perished, it happens inside the bit that folds over its self, loads of tiny holes. Took my off and stuck a compressor on it and its like sive.

Good point is they are easy to change landrover say they should be changed every 5 years

what about coil conversion?

The way to go. Junk the moretroublethanthey'reworth air springs and fit coils.
What you lose in air doesn't come close to what you gain with coils imo. Sell the pump if it's ok and the conversion has cost you nothing more than a little time.
Check with your insurance that they will accept the change over and if not (on the basis of it having 7 seats?) then either change insurance company or remove the 6th/7th seats if you don't need them. Then let them know the full conversion carried out and that it will be a 5 seater instead of 7.

oh man, i had all this crap with my air suspension till i eventually just converted to coil springs, THEY wont fail EVER and suspension is no longer an issue, if you decide to battle on then its always in the back of your mind that it could drop its arse at any given second

I changed two airsprings a couple of week ago on a friends V8 Disco. When we took the old airsprings out and put them beside the new ones there was a massive difference. The old ones were roughly a third shorter and about twice the diameter. Seems they stretch sidewards as they get worn so you don't get the same height. The compressor on my own Disco packed up twice in 14 months (despite having a full suspension overhaul by the local main stealer). That was it for me, went and got myself a coil conversion kit for £115 all in and fitted it in about an hour. Best move I ever made. No more worries about it sitting down and IMO makes it a firmer more enjoyable drive. I wonldnt hesisitate to do it again...............

I love my air suspension the ride is nice and the additional ground clearence and towing mode are worht the hassel not to mention when you stick a heavy load in the back it stays nice and level.

The springs are fat and round when i use just new ones are not inflated so differnt before they are used.

it says you have to have it turned off from air to springs after the coil conversion, at a garage is this true? how much should i expect to pay for this to be done thanks for all the replys woody 4x4..:)

To replace 2 air spring costs the same as a coil conversion and takes about 20 minutes a wheel to do, if your compressor works then your better off keeping the aire, springs are £62 each online.

how do i test the compressor to see if its ok, if i buy the air bags and it dont pump up, my mrs will let the jack down with me still under it lol..

The compressor is situated externally under the passenger seat and when you start up you should be able to hear it running when adjacent. Firstly check the fuse in the under bonnet fuse box, its the 5th from the left and the relay which I think is 2nd from the left. The fuse can be checked visually unfortunately the relay cannot so swap it with the one next door which I think is the washers. If still no joy then remove the compressor cover (2 duez fasteners) and give it a bang, if still no action then switch off. There are 3 electrical connectors situated to the lefthand front of the unit (looking at the side as mounted) from memory I think they are white, blue and black. They all have retaining spring clips to be removed and unplug the connectors. Clean with contact cleaning fluid and when dry apply a bit of vaseline with a childs paintbrush. Re-assemble and start the vehicle. If still not working then it could be the level switches fitted at the rear of the vehicle although I doubt if both would go faulty at the same time. You compressor is probably mullered which often happens due to the ingress of water through the air intake tube, which then causes it to sieze. A new one from Terrain Vehicles is £280 delivered and takes about 45 minutes to fit. Good luck.

If the car is on its arse now go and start it up and with all doors closed stand at passaengers side door you will hear it running like a tyre inflator.

just had the both bags off, put them on my compressor in the shed, heald them in a bucket of water, one was alot wores than the other but both leaking, replaced the fuse (thanks for that tip) compressor statred up put old bags on just make sure all back to normal so on my way to paddocks to fetch to new bags, thanks again to all. my v8 baby is back !!! :)

Glad to hear you are on the road again, the same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I was lucky enough though a mate gave me to airbags that were nearly new
and oh boy the difference it makes with new air bags is amazing.
