Discovery 2 fitment of Disco 2a Headlights

Hi I have just bought a discovery 2 1999 model and reading some forums on fitting the 2A headlights it was mentioned that latter model headlights from other rover's fitted straight onto the D2 without cutting the existing original head light bracket. Has anyone achieved this outcome.

I am only new to landrover its the frst four wheel drive I have owned.I am a Mechanical Fitter and like to achieve perfection if I am going to change out the headlights for the D2A type.
