can anyone tell me,does my 1999 2.5tdi discovery 2, need a cambelt. also there is a sound like i went over a slight bump as i am traveling 30 mph every 10 seconds on a good road

If it's a Discovery 2 with the correct engine, no cambelt, but if fitted with a Tdi as you suggest, yes!

Check what engine you have, It should be a TD5, no cam belt, it's the Tdi's, which shouldn't be in a Discovery 2, that have belts.

thanks again, just got back from anglesey, towed big caravan.will get someone who knows about stuff to look at it,towed ok even up muddy steep hill

What engine is it? 1 or 2?

If it is 1, it is a 300TDi and not a Discovery 2. This will have a cambelt and they need to be placed ever so often (50k Miles I think but run a check on that....)

If it is 2, it is a TD5 and these have timing chains. Don't know much about TD5's but i know timing chains don't need replacing regularly.
