I am looking at fitting a discovery 2 body onto a discovery 1 chassis. I know its been done before but I want to know everything that needs to be done before comitting to buying a disco 2 body.
I have just bought a rotten discovery 1 chassis and engine are in good condition so I will keep those. I am looking at swapping a D2 body as it is much more rust proof and I live on an islsnd where rust is inevitable and rust free or almost rust free D1s are impossible to find.
Has anyone here ever done something similar and is willing to maybe expalin to me what work will need to be done?

amazing what a simple Google search turns up for you.

Incidentally I know it can be done cos a local indie has said so and there is nowt he don't know about Landies.

Just click on what is here below...

Been through everything google search has given, thats how I ended up on this forum :p.
I know that the easier way to do this it to:
keep the 300 tdi cluster
Swap the pedal box from the 300 tdi disco
Front and rear body mounts should line up
Center body mounts need to be cut and rewelded and spacers must be added.
Rear bumper will need modification. I intend to do a custom metal rear bumper so thats not as much of a concern.
Keeping all the inside electronics of the disco 2 is the easiest option.

Somethings im still questioning is for example how the 300 gearbox and transfer case line up with the disco 2 body, will the leavers sit too far forward or backwards?
Thats the reason for this post, just to make sure that Im thinking of everything that will need to be done to make this happen.

Honestly I’d be curious how the heck your going to get a body with all interior still there for not stupidly expensive money considering breakers can strip almost everything out to sell it…? I’d start with actually sourcing that, no point on the “how” if you can’t get the body.

"the D2 dash(speedometer, tachometer, warnings) will not work for the 300tdi engine cos it works with PWM signals from the Td5 ECM, you'll have to transplant the instrument pack and wire it to the engine and fusebox but let the rest of the wirings in situ(except the engine harness) as to have lights, indicators, door locking, windows, wipers, washers, heater, etc.... that seems simpler than the other way around, or if you want to keep the engine too transplant just the chassis to the D2 and keep the rest as it is"

That saves me writing it down!!! i wonder if its bad etiquette to steal from another forum!"

Stolen from another forum!

All the info online, is vague, at best. Much is somewhat contradictory, too

Also, IGNORE the Google AI overview - it's wrong (I wish I could disable it permanently, instead of putting a profanity in every search). It's wrong most of the time, on most of my searches.

I’m also just going to throw it out there that the D2 body may be better than the D1’s but it’s by no means except, I know from experience first hand. So you either get a Jap import body which would be immaculate but then what’s the point in swapping it as chassis will be better too?! Or you get a better D2 body than your current D1 and fix/treat any rust issues prior to swapping so you know it’s good.

It’s either going to be a lot of work, or a lot of money in all honesty and I dare say, even from me, probably not worth the hassle. I’d just get a jap import instead of all this faffing, especially if you’re on an island, then you can keep on top of the maintenance.
