Discovery 2 2003 twangy noise

I have this noise from my discovery which i think is something to do with the front suspension it appeared after having the shockers replaced some time ago.

I first herd the sound when my driver side wheel drop from the kerb after pulling away off the path it appears to be the sound as if you had a ruler over the edge of a table and twanged it like a spring sort of sound and appears to cause some sort of interference over the radio as if it were electrical like a relay or something.

Recently me and my lass went camping up the lake district and ended up on a site which was quite muddy and thought this shouldnt be a problem for my discovery 2 td5, but soon as entering a bit of mud this sound was there and it continued as the wheels were spinning in the mud and i really didnt think i was going to get out of it, while this car just sailed past me it was so embarrassing.

I am really ****ed off with this sack of poo i have had fuel injector harness replaced, condensation in my headlight, spigot, clutch, flywheel, driver door central locking latch, fuel pump, fuel line above tank, trim above the rear door all replaced i bought it from reg vardy 2 years ago for £16000 through Gordon is a moron Brown and his Govenment its now worth **** and want rid of it as my extended warranty has just ran out and really cannot afford to keep this list going.

Can anyone help me with this noise as i will have ago at it myself as everytime it has been to the dealer for repairs its ended up with a new fault on it.

Any noise like that i would have to hear myself, but it could be the Traction control mesing about.
Despite what youre suffering you have a good motor, and youre right you wont get that kind of money back.
Find a good lad in youre area who knows discos well and keep away from main dealers stealers

The twangy noise is your traction control cutting in.
When it senses a wheel loosing grip it applies the abs to that wheel, which in turn sends the power to the wheels with most traction.

When you drop one wheel of the kerb the T/C sometimes kicks in. The system thinks that the dropping wheel has lost traction. Although that wheel is turning, it's dropping down instead of moving forwards at the same rate as the other wheel on that axle.

Is this normal its very annoying and doesnt seem right when off road its impossible to live with.

What tyres you got? If you've got road tyres on, you'll get the T/C cutting in a lot.
Since I changed my wrangler hp's for grabber at2's I've notice a huge reduction in T/C application. A gentle right foot helps too.

yeah they are normal road tyres, have noticed less grip on front in the wet recently on bends like my tracking is out as well.

Traction control in my opinion is not a good thing, when it starts applying the brakes to spinning wheels, it slowly saps all youre power especialy when towing heavy load across muddy ground, you cant beat a 300 TDI in this situation

Some places will check your tracking for free. I think Kwik twit do free tracking checks.
Main signs of tracking prob's are, car pulls to one side and un-even wear on tyres.
Have you got a decent tread depth on your tyres?

Nice caravan by the way, the missus wants to change our Avondale Rialto 640-6 for a Hobby.

Agree with you there mate.
Can't beat diff lock when things get slippy, oo err missus.

Thanks mate i have thought about selling the caravan as well its the reason i bought the discovery, but war lass decided we should keep it but still seroiusly wanting to get rid of the disco and get something japanese like a pajero but need someone to talk me out of it.

Anyone know of any garages that can be trusted not to rip me off and to do a good job anywhere in Newcastle, Durham area, i will look into getting a free traction test before i get some Grabber tyres.

Dave to get back on topic i doubt its much of a problem just find that good bloke on Discos, and trust me you have the best 4x4 tow motor on the road

Thanks for all your help and support and you lads are starting to change my mind a little as i was really getting dishartened with it with all the cost and all the problems they have all been common faults some where the warranty didnt cover like the fuel leak cost me £200 to get sorted out which come out of my pocket, which i didnt feel like paying for faults that are common landrover issues which should have been sorted out on older models.
