Having just been browsing around the forum I'm concerned whether I'm running legal or not as far as my bull bar is concerned.

I have a 1997 300 tdi with a full tubular bull bar. It's a genuine part and the "first one" came with the vehicle from a LR dealer (second owner at 2 years old).

I've never actually declared the bull bar to my insurers (NFU) but they did kindly buy me a brand new identical one a couple of years after I had Disco when I stuffed the front end in. The repairs were done at a LR dealer body shop and again a genuine tubular bull bar was fitted.

It's a bit tatty now and I've just been looking around eBay to see what's available (none) then started reading bits on here about them.

Having insured the vehicle on the same policy for 10 years I don't know if I need to declare this or not.

A few years ago when I was with direct line I had the same dilema so decided to tell them I had a bull bar, same as yours factory fit on vehicle from new etc, well the $&*(^%$(£" only wanted an extra 600 quid and gave me telling off for being illegal.

But not to worry...

I told direct line to stick it, and called NFU.

As I reeled off the list of mods (nothing serious, but wanted everyting on record) the nice lady in my local office said to me "Mr Davy, it's a Landrover, it's supposed to have a bullbar". And the quote was 200 quid less than was paying.

I've never looken back since.

Jon.

Thanks Jon

Think I'll take the view it's been notified since they actually paid for it (as well as the vehicle being inspected at the time by their loss adjuster). Seems a bit late now to actually ring up and "tell" them.

I've also just found the bodyshop invoice with it listed which the NFU paid.

Only illegal if fitted after a certain date (05 ish), so you are fine. My disco 2 had one once, but removed. It will be legal for me to put one on as it had one before. Dont worry. And the NFU lady was right!!!
