Ok going to change the brakes on my Disco!

Already made the mistake of ordering the wrong parts!

I got vented discs and the ones on are solid. I thought that they would be direct swop but the calliper is not wide enough to fit it in! However when my mechanic mate helped me take them off ready to fit, he also noticed that the calliper is leaking and will need a new one.

Just wondering what people think..... If I were to get the vented callipers would they then fit? Or would I be better getting a new set of solid discs and a new solid calliper?

I will be getting the stuff from paddocks I think.

Why are you replacing the callipers?? when a replacement seal and piston kit for them costs a fraction of the cost of a new calliper. And if one is goosed it stands to reason that the other one will be in a similar state as the goosed one. Unless it's been replaced recently.

My mate who is helping to fit them all says that it is better to renew as I haven't owned the truck long and dont know if it is the seal or another problem. But at £35 ish I would rather be safe than sorry.

Thing I was thinking is maybe they vented discs simply need vented calipers when upgrading?!?!? Or did they make a Disco 1 1996 with vented discs as stock?

Its cheaper to get 2 new calipers than it is to get 2 extra (the boxes on the vented ones i got are wet and buggered so would have to sell on ebay not return) solid discs and either 1 or 2 solid calipers.

Biggest problem is the vented discs been stock or upgrade?

If they were an upgrade then simpler to just get new calipers. If they were stock prob better to stick with what was on it!

The vented caliper part numbers are/or was RTC6776 RH and RTC6777 LH.. As they are listed LR part I surpose that the were fitted as standard to the D1 somewhere in the world.

Stock vented on my left hooker in Spain (1993)

Dave

Spoken to paddocks and they say best to keep it as it was with solid discs and solid calipers.

Aparently the brake lines are diffrent so far simpler to get the right set.

So if anyone is in the West Yorkshire area and needs a pair of vented discs let me know they are going cheap.
