2.7 ltr engine you have dipstick and meant to check weekly. 3.0 ltr engine check oil when message on dash says - thats what you pay a luxury price tag for. Spoken to a few owners and some 3.0 ltr engines never need oil between services; that's what you'd expect from a modern engine doing 12,000 miles a year?
As I said before learn from me - don't trust the automated system!
Think LR now suggest in later disco4 manuals to check weekly, covering their arse cuz system doesn't work, cheaper to change manual than fix problem!!! They can blame you then!!!

Anyway getting a recon done and trading it in to main dealer :D let them have a head ache!

Loooooooooooooooooooooser :hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi

I can understand where you are coming from mate, you would have thought that by them removing the dipstick their system would be 100% guaranteed, if landrover tell you to check the wires for that how far do your other checks go?

It sounds like something has gone seriously tits up. You wouldn't really expect a modern reasonably young engine to burn all its oil or leak that amount without you noticing it.

I would get an independent inspection done to establish what exactly has gone wrong and take it from there. You should at least be able to get a hefty goodwill contribution from LR if you've stuck to the maintenance/servicing regime.

Good luck with it anyway.

Some people drive Land Rovers because they're slow and some people drive Land Rovers because their slow?
No wonder you're solo bi Rob - single even though you bat for both !

Just read all this. I would expect a serious contribution from lr for this. If the vehicle was serviced to their intervals, how the hell did it run dry.
I'm so far behind the times I didn't realise we had progressed so far that engines no longer have dipsticks. Total crap.

Must be a women owner... I have the TDV6 in my D3 and i've never read the manual... didn't really think about the oil sensor... I just check the oil every few weeks... and the water level... and PAS level... and brake... well, you get the picture... If i wasn't lazy i'd go and read the manual - maybe i'm wasting my time and there are auto sensors for those too.

(Ok, just seen the bit about the 3.0l not having dip sitcks... that's just 'tarded.

Car was serviced at LR for first 2 then local specialist for just the oil / filter change, all done to the book.
Genuinely think its a minor electrical or dash fault that doesn't show up on a diagnostics check but lead to oil levels not being monitored.
Also engine didn't run dry it still had between 2 & 3 litres in it.

Now if you'd said that in your first post you might have got some better answers. ;)

:DI'll stick with my 11 year old d2 for as long as I can , it has a dip stick , oil checked at least 2 times every week, never wanted topping up between oil changes, wife keeps on about having a d4 but I keep cocking a deaf un. I can't see any logic in changing a good car for one with no dipstick just to have the latest reg plate.

All Land Rovers have a dipstick it just appears that the D4,s sits behind the steering wheel. Surly you would know if your engine was about to seize, the temperature gauge must of been in the red . You would of felt the engine getting tight Fcuk youd of been able to smell it.Ide of stopped it long before it seized but then when you've got 40k for a car who gives a fcuk just go buy another :D
