Just brought the above and I can't get the beast into diff lock. The mechanic from the dealer (not a LR dealer) said that some of them from that age didn't have manual diff locks on the transfer box as the vehicle has decent control & ant-skid. The transfer box gear stick is marked with the classic "H" diagram showing Hig-N-Low and Diff locks. There is nothing in the owners manual to say it does not have diff lock. I suspect the diff lock has never been used and is sulking rather than missing! Any suggestions on how I determine if my newly beloved has the manual diff lock?

If you do a search there are several previous threads on this

Anyway....
I Beleive most 2003 DIDN'T/Don't have CDL's... and I doubht yours has. Only way to find out is to jump underneather and check have a look/feel on the top of the tranny box and see if the spigot/linkage is in place. Have a look on urban panzers website this will tell you where to look... www.discovery2.co.uk/Factory Diff Lock

If you dont have a CDL (Which I strongly suspect you dont) You CAN fit one... it isnt cheap at around £500 for yours coz you need the additional bit for the tranny box..Ashcroft Transmissions have a very good reputation and here's the link for them Ashcroft Transmissions

Hope this helps.

or if you want to fit difflock then you can use the bits of a 300tdi i got a gearbox and transfer box off ebay for £100 (the box was going to be converted to fit my 90) and the lincage came with it just had to buy the rubber cover that goes on the transmission tunnel

Some did. A mate has an 03 plate and it's fitted to that (i think it was an option for 03/04 vehicles). his was stuck solid. took a few cans of WD40 and a bit of force to get it moving again.
