My Discovery has a sagging back. Changed both air bags. No change. John Craddock work shop then suggested they fitted new compressor £322 later no change. Down it goes in 2/3 hours. They contacted diagnostic company they suggested fitting new height sensers as a high difference value had to be set between left and right side to get vehicle level. Help confused.

If it's had new air bags and a new compressor and still goes down in a couple of hours, it's unlikely to be the ride height sensors as they have no effect when the car is parked up and the engine's been off for a while.

It could be a simple as the pipe connections are not home. Grab a trigger sprayer from under the sink, fill it with soapy water and spray the airbags, the pipes and the valve block (in a black box, on the side of the chassis, under the pasenger seat, open it with a 5p peice)

Just thought I d mention if you renew an air suspension compressor on a series II disco, you should check or renew the air receiver/drier. Remove the rear nearside/passenger light cluster and its a black cylinder clipped to the body with a plastic pipe coming out the bottam. If you remove the lid its got two types of sponge inside, which can become soaked with water. When we had alot of rain a few months ago, I changed 4 air compressors in a week and every one had serious amounts of water in the compressor, the pipes and both air bags.
I heard of garages just changing the compressors and not checking for water in the system and the compressors have been failing.
Even checking the receiver/drier filter should be done on a service i think.
Prevention is key!
 
Hi all, new to the forum, but have had a few similar problems. Firstly I had a quick sinking of just the drivers side. I checked the air springs and found that the drivers side was leaking from the bottom of the bag, so I have replaced that. Now I have just an overnight sinking of the rear, still on the drivers side. Having removed the 2 bolts and dropping the compressr unit off, and soap testing all the pipes etc, no pipes were leaking but then I suddenly found that there were bubbles coming from the wiring from one of the solenoids!! Removing the electrical plugs and soap testing, found that the actual solenid was leaking slowly through the electrical plug. Does anyone know if the two solenoids are available as a seperate part??

Generally it would be a whole new compressor unit... but..There was talk about someone finding a source for these soleniod valves some time ago on one of these threads...

Upon searching, I found that this only seems to apply to Range Rover P38A compressors, where the compressor and valve block are dealt with as separate parts... unless anyone can prove me wrong!

Well looking at the unit, it does look like the solenoids are seperate, they are screwed to the side casing. Only the pipes link the compressor. I have not yet had a chance to ask my local dealer, but will tomorrow and see what they say.

Well everyone, after fitting a new air spring on the offside, the sagging continued, but not as bad. She lost about half the height overnight. Soaptesting found faulty solenoids, leaking air through the wiring plug connectors. As the compressor was working ok, I didnt see much point in changing the whole lot at quite a cost, hence I have found a source for the solenoids onlyfor the Disco II !!!! Fitted just the solenoid block, problem solved!! If anyone needs just the solenoids, let me know and I can supply them. I will update with the costs as soon as I have found out what they are exactly, but if it is only the solenoids that you have that are faulty, this is a cheaper option.
 
PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

I have had it suggested that I routinely raise the rear suspension to full height (off road mode) and give the 'air bags' a good wash with a hose (or pressiure washer) to help remove any build up of mud and grit . . .

When in 'normal height' the bottom end folds back up inside the upper part, and grit will cause abrasion to the walls of the 'bag'

Seems to make sense to me anyway !!!

what did you pay for the soleniods and where did you get them from?
 
Start selling them on ebay - you will make a killing.

Even more so if you can find a supplier for compressor parts, then you can overhaul them - much money to be made especially as lots are failing these days!
 
hi there wonder if anyone could help me i have few wee problems with my landrover dicovery td5 51 plate.
my 1st problem is the suspension compressor just suddenly stopped working dosnt drop as new air bags recently fitted and height sensors was working one day and not the next i notice a 30amp fuse under bonnet was away so replaced that but its still not working is there any checks i can do to try to see if its a new compressor i need.
my2nd problem is i have a wobble at my wheel have put to new tyres on and shock absorbers and wobble there folk are sayin maybe a drive shaft is there a easy way to check .
my 3rd problem is i have a diesil leak at the bulk head but folk say there is two seals there is that a easy job
any info be gladly appricated

Take the ends off the solonoids off and clean the insides then lubricate with WD40 and refit. There are 2 "O" rings in each one. Clean and lubricate these as well.
That is what was wrong with mine.

remove the compressors cover, unplug the compressor's connector, disconnect the air supply pipe(the one from the middle of the valve block) and give direct feed to the plug... if it doesnt work u need a new one...if it pumps air normally and doesnt warm up hard or make strange noise we'll speak again
