Disco1 300TDI electrical fault.....aaaaaarrrrggh

Hi, got myself a electrical prob. I'm hoping it's been seen before and the solutions "known"
It's a 94 300tdi, no air con abs or sunroofs.
Basically the drivers side parking lights are out along with the dash illumination. Had a peek at the fuses and found a red 10amp fuse gone so I replaced it, restarted her up and switched sidelights on and "pop" instantly the fuse went. Now I'm ****e with electrics and wonder if anyone knows what's wrong or point me to a good auto trician or tell me how to run a few checks

Try a bigger fuse

You will have a problem fitting a bigger fuse so stay with the standard size you have.
The information on the correct fuse is stated on the fusebox cover, which you will find is 10amp for each side light and head light circuit.
It seems you you have a direct short to earth to find.

All makes perfect sense until you said direct short to earth ???? Is that a Iive wire contacting thr negative earth body ??

Without seeming to be a urine extractor,

Do you have or know how to use a multi meter ? if you do you may be able to source the problem, if not you may be better off finding someone local to help you out. ( you do knot show your general location )

First thing I would do, is look at the back of the light , check the wiring to see if any wires have worn through the insulation.

Have you changed or moved anything on the dash or in the engine bay recently? Or been through deep mud?

Yes it is, a wire touching the body some where, maybe in the area of a light fitting but no always, iffy bulb or connector or trailer socket connections, number plate light.... anywhere really.
Has there been any interference with the vehicle wiring or work near the wiring lately ?
Start by proving the wiring from the fuse holder to the drivers side light and then the rear tail light.

That's too slow, stick a 100 amp fuse in and observe where the smoke comes from.

Yeah plenty of work recently lol, am a welder fabricator and have just fitted new inner wings etc, I can see next advice coming lol. I have skills but am rubbish with electrics it's like a black art to me, thanx again

Start looking at the wiring next to where you have been grinding/welding for any damage

it doesn't take much to blow a fuse
