Disco won't start

my discovery conked out the other day, & after having to push it out of the middle of the road, found it wasn't firing anymore, it sounds as though there is no fuel (diesal) getting into the engine.

I phoned breakdown company who said fuel pump was U/S (utterly S*****d).

I was wondering where is the fuel pump? is it hard to change ?

the fuel gauge says ½ tank of fuel, could this be wrong & the tank be empty ?

What engine's in it ? Open the filler cap an shake the disco an listen for fuel sloshing about in the tank

the engine is 2.5 td5 diesal, put £10 diesal in but still won't start

Can you hear the fuel pump priming?

If the fuel pump is dead like you say it is you can put as much fuel in the tank as you want and it still won't start.

No can't hear anything, usually it whirs but theres nothing.

where is the fuel pump on a 2000 td5. was told you get to it under the back seats but can't see anything?

Under the boot floor mat.

Lift up the mat and you will see an almost round hatch with 6 self tapping screws. Remove screws and lift off the lid.

The rest is pretty much the same as this....

It may be worth you ordering a new pump securing ring in case yours is corroded. A fair bit of pressure is required to locate the new pump in place and get the securing ring started. You are better off putting the new seal in the mouth of the tank and then trying to fit the pump.

If you have ran it out of fuel you will need to prime it I don't know if it same as td5 defender but turn ignition lights on an press rev 5-7 times till your engine management light starts flashing an you will hear the pump wait for light to stop an she should fire up

I haven't run it out of fuel, it conked out with half a tank of fuel according to the gauge.
phoned breakdown company they came out & said there's no fuel getting into the engine so thinks it was the fuel pump. the garage have looked at it & reckons there were some bad connections on the fuel pump but they can't get it to start & it keeps flattening the battery.
I am going away saturday towing a caravan so really need the car back. the garage don't know what they're doing i don't think but the only one available to sort it by saturday.. H.E.L.P
