Disco Will Not Stay On Gas??? Please Help!!!

Hi All,

I have a 1998 Discovery V8I Auto which is gas converted, I have just come back from a 2 week holiday in Wales and today it will not stay running on Gas.

I do the usual, I run it on petrol until it gets warm, then I get the revs over 2000 and it switches over to gas, now it runs fine whilst im actually in motion but when I come to stop at some lights or a junction or whatever it simply dies, the gears don't seem to go down the revs just drop to zero and the engine stops.

I even tried it whith the car stood still and in park, I started it up, switched over to gas and as soon as I took my foot off the accelerator same thing happened the revs dropped and the engine stalled, it would not idle or anything just stalled.

Has anyone got any clues???

check that the solonoid that controls your fuel cut off is not sticking! sometimes they stick and the engine tries to run on petrol and gas and this causes this problem of cutting out. try giving the solonoid a tap as its only a magnetic switch and this sometimes works.

Hi Colinl,

I am not quite sure what the Solonoid looks like, however me and my Dad had a squirt round with WD40 and tapped a few bits and bobs (sounds so ammerture lol) and the car seems to be running ok now.

I have attached a picture of what I think maybe the Solonoid could you confirm if this is correct.

Also, is this a tell tale sign of a problem that is going to get slowly worse, or is it one of those Land Rover things that you just live with

yep! that looks like the little fella. sometimes they stick and just need "help" with a tap! glad its worked!!!!
this does not mean it is going to fail but if it did they are not hard to get hold of and not expensive.
