Yesterday, I had the pleasure of helping out a mate bailing hay off his land. There were a few of us there and each turned up in various vehicles. I had my 300TDi Disco, there was a Nissan Terrano and an Isuzu L200.

The Nissan arrived and promptly lost its clutch getting into the field. Strike 1 up for the Landy! Also, because of the dodgy way these things are '4 wheel drive', it only had 2 wheel drive (thought those slittys were supposed to be reliable?). That's a 2 point lead for the Disco.

So now it's a two horse race between the Landy and the other slitty. Both coped reasonably well with the flat-ish, dry field but the Isuzu had to do this daft reversing thing every time you bring it out of 4WD. Another point for Landy's.

The Landy won hands down on the road though. That slitty couldn't tow the skin off a rice pudding! At one point, going up a hill and following it, I ended up having to go down into 1st gear because it couldn't pull itself and the load up the road.

At this point, I will say that both trailers were about the same size, with similar amounts of hay. The Disco is totally un-modified but the slitty has what looked like decent off-road tyres.

So there you are, absolute proof that you did the right thing buying a proper car and not one of those poxy things from over there;) :D

How did the baler go though?

If you're asking about the one my mate was using, it was a borrowed, drag along type. Don't know the make as I'm not a farmer. It was busted when I turned up but was soon fixed and ran for the rest of the day.

Apparently, he was dragging it too fast and a bolt sheared off.

ones bigger than the other:D :D

discos hidin behind the slitty:D
