my disco 2 has a vibration at 60mph, i,ve had new bfg fitted all round, so shouldn,t be that if they are balanced, cos it vibrated before i changed em, i,m thinking it mite be a propshaft?? is it possible to take front shaft off and test run it to see, or is this a no no ? please advise someone , thanks

If you take the front propshaft off and engage difflock then it should work as a RWD disco. I don't know what the implications are but I reckon it wouldnt do any harm to try.

Hello chap,
Had similar problem on mine a year ago which ended up with front end rebush and a steering ball joint.
Sometimes that strange object that rarely sees the underside called a GREASE GUN can help if like me, you bought a Disco that never went off road. There are grease nipples on both propshaft UJs and sliding joints.

it aint got diff-lock, its traction control ****e! more commonly known as wen ure just about up ta axels it applies the brakes ta dig ya sen a bigger hole!!

As rev says you CAN take a prop shaft off to determine vibrations etc...... and will have to put yeh diff lock on otherwise yeh going no-where, just remember to take it easy as all yeh torques going to one diff.

This is the correct reason to go easy and careful with it.

Should you have both propshafts connected, tighter turnings might give you some trouble. I used diff lock continuously at high speeds as well on my previous RRC (86 model with LT230)) in winter. My friend also uses it throughout the winter. I had no problems, what so ever, but my friend had to change the CV's and the gear box (early LT77) on his Disco. Well, the CV's had about 450 t km on them when they went and the gear box about 600 t km - so I'm not quite convinced that the diff lock caused the trouble. :p

Now I have the viscous diff lock, and do not have to worry in that sense.
