Hi all.

I have a 1991 V8 Petrol 4.6 Rangie Auto (with a ageing transfer box that is starting to whine somewhat.)

I have been told that the early disco transfer boxes will fit the rangie - as long as I use the disco driveshafts and change the transfer box control linkages.

Have been offered a 1996 300tdi Auto Disco with a blown engine for next to no money. Transfer box is known to be good.

Will the Transfer box from the Disco fit the Rangie?

Thanks,

Mike

If you're getting it cheap, take it anyway, all the drivetrain is worth a few bob even if you can't make the transfer box fit. You could part ex the disco box for a P38 one at somewhere like Ashcroft or one of the bigger breakers.

Yeah - think I'll go for it anyway....

Problem with me is, that I'll look at it ans say something like -
"Hey - this car's in good nick - let's fix the engine up!"

So I'd end up buying yet another car, transplanting the engine across, and using that transfer box in the rangie......
And end up with another TWO cars hanging around!!!

I was offered a 1994 disco for £280 6 months ago, and I should have bitten her hand off in retrospect, and found somewhere to put it in the meantime (have building project on too!!!)

To the best of my knowlage I belive it will swap as they used the same auto box in both for that period of time, the only thing I think could be a problem is what ratio's are there in the respective transfer boxes as they fit different ratio's to take account of the rev diferences between the petrol and diesel engines. but if you can get the serial numbers of both boxes Ashcrofts will be able to tell you

Hi all.
I have got a 1.222 disco transfer box in perfect working order,
Anybody in the Leeds area fancy it for there defender?
Fitting can be arranged in a propper workshop with ramps and etc
for an additional fee.
