Has any one any experience of converting a disco R380 to be used in a defender?
I looked at the workshop manual and the section of the gear box for a defender r308 looks almost identical to an lt77, where as the back end of the disco box under the selector housing looks some what differant.
can parts from a defender lt77 be used to convert an r380 as i have a spare box?
Or should i put it on fleabay and get a defender box?

I'm finishing off fitting a 'short stick' discovery r380 into my 110 V8 which had an LT95 in. The input shaft is different, the selector rod and gear linkage parts are different all of which means the disco box must come apart. The rear casing is the same.

My prop lengths with a V8/R380 bell housing are within 10mm of each other. The clutch arm and pivot all look like they can be carried over from the LT95. I'm making new gearbox mountings although they could be bought already done. I don't know about the LT77 though, I am lead to believe the gear linkage and turret are the same so your job will be less parts intensive

It would be easier, i agree, but as the 300 tdi and r380 stand me at £150 the idea is to do it low cost if poss as the 110 it's going into already has an lt77.
Hopefuly it will end up traybacked as a weekend play toy, and with the prospect of totally mashing it off road, spending more than is needed dosn't apeal.
