Hi all, just got my hands on a T Reg Disco TD5. Problem is it won't start
So aparantly the previous owner had a dispute with a buyer and was sent back as 'it won't start'
The symptoms are that the dash lights all come on as normal and the fuel pump engages, but the starter motor doesn't do anything. Replaced it but still nothing. There are relays clicking but not the solenoid.
We have a feeling that it's the immobiliser but not entirely sure as I've swapped the ECU and key internals to match but still no luck, so I put it back to how it was.

Any help or advice to point me in the right direction would be immensely appreciated
Thank you.

Have you checked the control wire (small wire which goes to the solenoid)? For me it caused starting problem already 2 times. Both times I had oil on the contact surface.

If you bought it as a non-starter I hope you didn't pay much for it!
When you turn the key to the "start" position, is the immobiliser warning light, centre bottom of dash, still flashing? Or does it go off if you push the "unlock" button on the remote?
If you push the "unlock" button and it goes off, try quickly to start it. This happens with mine and what I have just mentioned lets it start.
You could also use a meter to see if you are getting current to the control/solenoid wire.
Does the seller have any idea at all why it wasn't starting? Or what happened leading up to it?

Oh and here is a biggie, are you absolutely sure a/ the battery has a real good charge and b/ the terminals are really sound on the posts. The terminals on a TD5 are sh1te and you need to bash them on with a hammer and a socket before tightening, sometimes, to ensure a good connection.
Best of liuck and let us know what happens.

This could possible be the problem, I will check later when I get to the unit where its stored. I've heard it might be the BCU? What does one of those look like so I can check for water ingress? Thanks.

I will pay him £450 if I get it started..
The key fob doesn't work, but the previous owner tried to sell it but they had a dispute over payment. Putting 2 and 2 together, they have probably done something to it to prevent it from running.
I will have a look at the immobiliser light soon and let you know. Thanks for the reply, Jake.

Hate to say this, but it looks to me as if they are looking for a mug who will pay them then take it on hoping to fix it relatively cheaply.

I'd be extremely tempted to walk away, or simply to tell them to get it to start and then talk again about price.

OK mate, thanks.. I'll try the BCM, if that doesn't work, give it them back. Cheers...
