Hi All
As if I don't have enough problems...
NOW the temperature gauge plays silly buggers.
Overheat warning light comes on but the needle drops right down to below cold.
If you turn off and restart, sometimes it will clear.
Definitely not overheating as does it from cold.
I'm sure there is a page in here for "buying a crock of S..T..."
Any ideas??

Thanks:eek:

Get a wiring Diag and check the wiring. There is a green wire with a blue trace that runs between the PCM and the IPK that controls the gauge and light and from the PCM to the temp sensor there is 2 wires to check, Pink with a green trace and pink with a black trace.
Check for open circuits and shorts to earth or live. Also don't forget tp test the sensor

As has been said check the wires etc but I would replace the temp sensor, are are known to play up and fail. Oh and go for a genuine one in my opinion.

Thanks for the pointers guys. New sensor on order.
PCM? - Pulse code modulator????
IPK? Not a clue,

Really appreciate the support Rigsby999, and OWL, Just need a brief translation.
Thanks

......silly question, the coolant is topped up....? Symptoms sound kind of what I got when head cracked and coolant dropped below sensor level (or of course it could have happened the other way round and gasket went first.... Doh!) A

Just been reading this thread, I've currently got same problem however the coolant in my case was low and the head has just been done, if coolant was low this would cause the temp sensor to cause the fault needle dropping and red light coming on as it would have dropped level flowing past sensor. Am I correct??? However it hasn't had a service for a while. To be honest I didn't check the level of the coolant when I picked her up five weeks ago. Or should I be looking at something else cheers
