Disco TD5 radio model identification

I need to change the CD player on my 2001 TD5. But the retailer needs to know exactly the brand and model number of the head unit.
It's a LHD French market car, with the Harmon Kardon system upgrade - nothing in any of the orginal handbooks relates to the radio fitted in the car, so, does anyone know if there is a website that can tell me what's fitted - like the Mercedes site that tells you everything if you just quote the VIN number?
If not, does anyone know the best way to get the radio out?
It has two slots on the top of the fascia, which look promising, any advice on how to identify what the unit is will be greatly appreciated

I'm sure if you post a photo of your head unit someone in this forum will give you the info you require.

I think they define the ICE fairly comprehensively in the workshop manual, I will look when I am at home later or someone may beat me to it.

Thanks Discool and oldzed, I eventually found a manual with the old car papers that tells me it's an R990, probably made by Alpine, but the man at the shop is insistent he must have the exact model number, so, I'm looking for two bits of metal that can unlock the unit from the dash so I can pull the unit out and have a look for the model number. I know such keys are prpbably sold on ebay, but there must be something that will do the trick. I've used an old coathanger before on other radios, but this needs falt flat keys. Any thoughts, anyone?

WIth the help of the local garage I got the radio out, noted the model and number- an Alpine unit - and called the car audio shop, only to discover that a replacement CD unit is no longer available.
So I can change the entire system- they offered me a cable adapter for the HK amplification system compatible with a new radio and cd player, or -
an Ipod adapter and charger and a little screen, made by Harmon Kardon, which seems to offer a viable solution - all for forty-nine quid, and easy to fit.
Knowledgeable bloke on the phone, worth talking to if you have problems with the Harmon Kardon sytem on a Disco II.

That was funny, I pasted in the internet address of the car audio shop - which turned into a one-line ad on the message; when you click on it it opens their page. Is that clever or more Big Brother???

gdb, with regards to the new set-up, does the i-pod adaptor and little screen replace the cd player and have you kept the original R990 head unit? Do the steering controls work? Would be interested to hear

I haven't even bought anything yet, I'm going back to London next week and plan to buy the kit- there are two available on the car audio site, one from Alpine, and one from Harmon Kardon. When I spoke to the very knowledable bloke on the phone he said the kits could be fited to any car, and that they would work with the steering wheel controls. I'll certainly post a report once it's all fitted.

Sorry, didn't answer your questions - the ipod unit fits on to the back of the head unit, so I will be keeping it, and as I've been told there are no compatible CD changers now available, it will be replacing the CD.
