I love it, im sure i do but then something else goes wrong. Im working my way through them mind, MAF, oil in ECU, etc etc. I cant work it out, ive never down so much work on a car but then maybe ive never been bothered to, id normally just flog it on. I drive it thinking i'll sell it and get some money back while its still worth something and then i realise again how much i like it. Then ill get talking to someone with one who tell me how many problems theve had with it and i start to worry that one day im going to get something that isnt a quicjk easy fix and will cost me a fortune. Take saturday for instance taking it for a spin having worked on it every weekend for a while doing small fixes thinking how great it is to have a weekend off when blow me the sunroof drips a couple of times onto the passenger seat-another job. Then come sunday i going through a couple of fords on the peddars way (great fun) and the kids are in the back loving it, i then come out the other side lower the suspension again (7 seater version) and steam up the road in the ever responsive td5 which i love and burn round to my dads for fathers day. What other car could do this. Is this all normal?

Aslong as it's only little jobs, worry about the big jobs when, and IF you get them.

The thing is, you'll hear about the cases where people have something wrong, especially on a forum because people bring the subject up to try and find an answer to the problem, but you don't get the countless people out there who are driving around in TD5s largely without fault logging on to tell you everything is fine and peachy. Likewise you might hear a tail of one man's woes, but there are an awful lot of TD5s out there, not everyone is complaining about constant faults and big bills alike.

I'll use a probably rather pointless anecdote for you... I worked at a truck garage, but we also serviced small amounts of commercial vehicles there too, including a few Mk5 Transits. The Mk5 Transits came mostly in 2.5 N/A diesel form, and were as simple as you could want an engine to be, mechanical diesel pumps, simple pushrod engine design... really they are bread and butter engineering, but they are rather crude and underpowered for heavy weights. There was also a 2.5 Turbo series of engines, these used Lucas (EPIC) electronically controlled fuel injection, and when the EPIC system went wrong, they were notorious for costing big money, but, they were much more frugal with the fuel, allowed better power without a hit on economy and were quieter. So when I eventually left and started up my own business I was in the market for a Transit, and I bought one of the aforementioned Turbo Diesels. All my colleagues were saying I've made the wrong decision etc etc, they're allways breaking and expensive, haven't you learned nothing yada, yada.... but in 2 years of ownership of that van, it's given me no problems atall. It's been reliable and performed admirably throughout it's time with me (ofcourse now I've said that!.........)

I'm rambling here so I'll try and find the point to all this lol.... I'm not saying that the TD5 doesn't have more to go wrong, or it can be expensive when things happen etc, all I'm saying is don't always read the worst part of the story, there are plenty of TD5 owners happily driving around keeping quiet because they have nothing to speak up about.

Enjoy your car if it's what you want, it sounds like it is, minor issues and all, and if a big problem comes around, then cross that bridge when you come to it, but don't just assume it will happen, just because some (and I emphasise some) people have had issues with theirs, it does not mean that you will at some point have a major one with yours.
