Hi chaps,
I've got a 'noise' coming through the front of my 1999 TD5 auto. I've searched on here thoroughly (I think) for anything that looks familiar, but no joy.

The noise is like a groan more than anything, but it's only there when I take my foot off the accelerator pedal up to approx 30mph, and the same noise when I place my foot back on it, upto the same speed. It seems like I can feel something through the steering at the same time - almost like I can feel the noise through it - I know, sounds daft!

The groan is only there, it seems, when the foot movement on & off the accelerator is done gently. If I put my foot down quite firmly, or lift off suddenly, it doesn't seem to appear.

It doesn't seem like anything else is affected, it just feels/sounds annoying at the moment, but I don't want it creating problems later.....

Anyone shed any light on what they think it could be?

Cheers !

thanks for the reply, but the symptoms dont relate to wheels out of balance, in my previous experience. There's no vibration, etc, just the moan/groan noise as above, and only for a second as the accelerator is pressed or released gently.

sorry....then think of the wheel hubs... or if u hear it even when the car is standing then i think it's something connected to the auxiliary belt or the viscous unit.......the fact that it's doing it when u push the accelerator gently i'd say that it's a kind of illusion coz then u hear it better ....... if u push the pedal with manliness the "roaring" of the engine might cover the noise u hear.

joke:......if it's bothering u too much and u'll never get rid of it dont push the pedal gently again:D

Right, just been out & about and taken some proper notice of whats going on. The noise is definately only there when on the move, and it doesn't actually happen when going on the accelerator, only when coming off it. It seems to happen at speeds upto approx 50mph (not 30 as previously stated), and only when any load seems to have come off fully (if that makes sense).

I'll also check the front axle oil as advised, too, thank you.
