Hi All

As per my other thread I have just rebuilt the front prop and refitted in an effort to cure a vibration. I have however not been successful so looking for some further advice if possible.

The Problem
On accelerating at 2250 I get a deep vibration that fades out after 2500-2750 regardless of which gear. Off the gas I don't notice it. Definitely feels like the vibration is at the front of the car.

So far I have
Replaced rear donut
Replaced all front prop UJ's and cardon
Completely removed the handbrake shoes etc to eliminate that.
Eliminated engine vibration (Doesn't do it when sat there and revving nuts out of the car.

Car hasn't done 70k if that helps. Any advice, tips, direction would be mucho appreciated.

Recently had engine oil change and I put new gearbox oil in this morning as while I had the prop off.

Torque converter out of balance? no idea bout the Disco 2's auto box, but the old 3 speed box in my Rover SD1 had a balance weight where one of the spot welds holding it in place broke and as it bent outwards it made a hell of a racket against the bellhousing as well as vibration.

have you run it the gears engine running and re checked level as per RAVE

Thought I would get all 4 corners up, put the car in drive and see if I could isolate the vibration but as soon as I begin to accelerate the traction control kicks in. Is there any way of turning the TC off while I run this test ?

Right , the vibration is there when the car is not in motion I have established today. I got under the car while the missus revved it up and observe the rear engine mounts . No signs of excess play there and they don't look to have perished either. What I did notice was the that vibration could be felt significantly on the transfer box casing far more than the gearbox. Given its a vibration not due to the vehicle in motion I am at a loss as I would only have expected a fault on the transfer box if the car was moving.

Help !!!!!

Hi I appreciate this is an old post but I had same prob with my auto , mine was the damper behind the handbtake backplate loose , found when I changed the oil seal , I ould see the line of rust behind the bolts , took the nuts off the loctight and refit , 4 years on and still good but give me a right run around ....... if you allready found it well done , regards mel

That's a good tip Mel I've got the same thing had it for months tearing my hair out trying to suss it out cheers for that

Thanks Mel. Took it all apart again this afternoon. Damper was all tight but took it off anyway to check its general condition. Put it all back together exactly the same problem. Having been under the car with a stethoscope the vibration can be heard the loudest on the transfer box so I am moving towards accepting it looking like I am needing a new one.

Vibration is there at standstill as well as in motion but more noticeable under load. Kicks in at 2250 RPM lasts till approx. 3000rpm

This sounds like a resonance ! At standstill with it in park there will be no shafts turning , if it is there when reving then it must be outside the box ?

Well still got the vibration. Am thinking of doing the torque convertor upgrade as even if it doesn't cure the vibration I wont be sat in the RPM range that it happens all the time with the upgrade lowering the RPM's
