Disco TD5 '03 Chirping/Squeel on Tickover

Hi All,
I have recently developed a rather strange noise when the disco is on tickover or accelerating.

It is very much like a cricket sound on/off/on/off and the more revs you give the faster it gets. It is worse when the car is cold too.

Its not a constant squeel.

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be, its driving me nuts!

tensioner pulley bearings possibly-if you take belt off and spin it will feel gritty or sound noisy

Is it a difficult job to change them, its not really loud but annoying!

not as easy as a tdi but not bad you will need to remove the fan and then the cowl to get to it

and check the fan pully to the bearings go in them too

check the fan belt too i had the same problem and the belt was the cause the belt has a fine felt material in the grooves and when there worn they make that squeeky noise

I shall have look at these locations next weekend when hopefully the weather will be better!
