Disco td 5 switch off

Hi can anyone help ?
I have a Discovery Td 5.when it rains heavy or when i wash it and engine is runing and i go to turn off the engine well i turn off the key and remove the key and engine still runing.the only way ive found to turn it off is to tap brake peddle and engine switches off !
I can then put key back in ignition and all lights are on on the dash before turning the key but it starts and then all lights go off.
When its parked in my shed or weather is dry i dont have a problem.
Maybe only use in the summer !

I know fu ck all about electrics but it looks as if the sparks to the stop solenoid, if it has one, are staying connected through the water that has somehow got to them. Or contrariwise, the cut off signal isn't getting to it.
Why didn't you simply stall it to stop it? Or is it an auto?
Others will jump on here to tell me I am wrong and give you a better solution!

Makes sense

Two things. Brake pedal tap having an effect might well be linked somehow to the wiring for cruise control, as the brake pedal switch has obviously a connect to the cruie control ecu.
Secondly, if you are having such fun with the ignition switch, it has been known for the switch to go a bit wonky. I know cos I need to replace or "doctor" mine soon, but hopefully others with more knowledge will join in and help.
