disco swivel damper

Rebuilding two disco hub assy's to go onto my defender, the two torx screws in the bottom swiver pin have rounded, so will need to drill out, do I need to put the damper back on or can I just scrap it

I've heard of people removing them without bother.
Why not leave it on to save f*cking about drilling the bolts out.

Cheers have managed to drill out without to much drama so will clean and put them back on
