Just replaced the stereo on my 93 94 Discovery 200tdi only to find wireing butcherd, anyway got it kind of working eg the two front door speakers and the two in the rear pillars but not the rear door.On the car there are two large plugs 1 White 1 Red there is a place on stereo for these but still no sounds. In the main harness there are a few extra wires a Blue/Yellowx2 aRed/Blackx1 and aBlackx1. Also inside the main harness there is a seperate metal screened black plastic wire containing three wires a Redx1 Blackx1 and 1 Bare wire with a tail conected to the loose Black wire comeing from the main harness. Then there is another loom using quite heavy wire Greenx1 Whitex1 along with with which looks like speaker cable Blackx2 Black/Whitex2. I also looked at the speakers in the rear door they are coded as Blackx2 White/Purplex1 Blue/Yellowx1 Redx1. Going back to the car i checked the Blue/Yellowx2 and theRed/Black wires for power but dead tryed touching Red/Blackx1 and Blackx1 to speaker terminals bat no sounds from rear door then i tryed the same with the wires inside the screened cable the Redx1 to a + on the speaker terminal and Blackx1 to the- and the rear door speakers kicked into life pretty loud to, switched everything of joined the two wires into the terminal block tryed stereo again no sounds from any speakers. It seems they all will work only if i connect the Redx1 and the Blackx1 if the stereo is on but not if i switch of then on.

if the wiring is like the 300 the rear door speakers and pre amp as fitted on mine will not work off a non land rover stereo unless you are willing to undertake a rewiring job thats why i opted for seperate subs and amp. hope this helps.

Some aftermarket stereos don't have the capability or connection fittings for the rear subwoofer. When Halfords had to replace my LR stereo after they broke the panel connectors (whilst fitting a handsfree kit), they found that the standard Sony Explod didn't have the connections on the back, so they had to upgrade the stereo by 2 models before they got the one with the fitting on the back. Also, they had to buy an aftermarket subwoofer lead, to make the connection. Look at item number 170067026233 on Ebay, that should make it clearer for you.
