Disco or Range

Should i buy a disco or a range? i am looking at 1990's for either. I have a Range available that i know all the history too. It has LPG and is auto. I have been looking more at disco's though.
Can anybody advise which i should go for?
Any guidance much appreciated.
 
I have a '93 200tdi Range rover and a '93 200tdi Disco
Here are my observations:
Good points: Range Rover: Better rear space, more comfy seats, easy quick acces to boot,(no heavy wheel on door) I think classic rangies look way better. For some reason the rangie is much faster??
Bad Points: Range Rover - Rear tailgates have questionable rusting and locking issues. More dated design.

Is there much difference of their abilities off road? I know they guy who is selling the Range and i know its history, it has never been off road and has been well looked after for the last 13 years. I would be buyin a disco off a stranger. I guess, providing that there is no real difference between them off road then i'll go for the range...

I think i will, my only concern that i have just found out is that the LPG tanks are underneath rather than in the boot. What should i do to protect them as i will be going off road.

IMHO if you are off roading with the rangie...ditch the sill tanks, and have a tank in the spare wheel area or boot..or go for some lifts, perhaps +2"...

Or fabricate some heavy duty tank guards mounted to the outriggers.
 
for off road i have no complaints from my 200tdi disco..and king can verifie it went every where his rangie, marks rangie and grunts depender did almost standerd(i have +2s)..

i only got stuck once(when i got high centered) but that was due to lack of tread on road tire's in slippy ruts :D

Standard disco and rangie are both very capable machines....personally i prefer the classic look of the rangie hence I got one..besides, rangie was a much more sophisticated "luxury" vehicle when they were new..

On our 'not so' recent outing to Tong, my rangie as well as Spudy's disco both on road tyres went everywhere as Mark's rangie and Grunt's 90 went. Though they have muddies on. And I have standard height heavy duty springs on.

So, in short, it all depends on which look you prefers and how much you will trust the vehicle (knowing the FSH or not).
 
i also prefere the classic rr for look's but the need for 7 seat's ment the rangie went and the disco took her place :D

You could always bolt 2 extra seat on a roof rack and your boys will love the roofless open air feel:D

besides, with them up on the roof, there will be less fighting....or at least you wont hear it...;)
 
cosmetically the disco holds it age a hell of a lot better, off road then if your comparing same engine and box then should be exactly the same exept ti think the disco body is about and inch higher but i may be corrected here, and if its off road you want then done get a petrol!
 
What ones cheapest?Knowing the history of the rngie is a big plus point but I would go for the best deal.But Iam stingey

its a good deal, known history for 15 years, family friend, never been off road, lpg conversion, long MOT, cant really go wrong. Personally i prefer the disco look but if we basing it on capabilities off road then i guess doesnt matter.

Pickin the range up next weekend. Green laning same day!
 
Good call.I dont think there are any "nice" looking landys anyway, they've got their very own appeal but the looks arent what they are about for me.Range tend to be a bit more luxurious an all
