Hi all, Ive got the chance of getting a 98 disco(think its a 300tdi) its been stuffed chassis is bent etc but the motor hasnt been damaged its going cheep the question is will it go in to a 87 rr classic its got a V8 just now its costin allot on fuel as you all know.has anyone done one of these conversions and was there any alterations to the rr chassis I believe the bulkhead needs cutting any advice would be appreciated in possible problems that I can expect to encounter Cheers the noo,Don:D

I've got an 88 classic that was a 3.5 and is now a 200tdi, brilliant combination - pulls like a train. Previous owner did it, so no idea personally of pitfalls etc but there is an article about Tdi transplants in this months LRO mag...
Good luck if you decide to do it.

Deisel conversions were popular on rangerovers before the td's were launched using various engines such as nissan and isusu so i can't see fitting the 300tdi being too much of a problem even though there will be more wiring for sensors ect than if you were fitting a 200tdi.The last of the classics had the 300tdi fittted from the factory so you should be ok for wiring diagrams ect

I think you will find you will need to move the engine mounts - they are a little further forward on the V8 but that should be about it
Don't reckon there will be any need to alter the bulkhead though - but I could be talking mince as I have only done the conversion on 90's and 110's - and the other way round of course, ditch the smelly tractor engines for a nice V8 !:D
