in the process of repairing a swivel i have damaged the oil seal in the stub
axle. looking for options on a quick repair as this is my only vehicle.
options as i see it

1 take stub axle to a lr garage and let them replace the seal using special
tools (i think this could be expensive?)
2 get a second hand stub axle as a direct replacement (my favourite option)
i was considering leaving it to see what happens but have decided against
this

if the consensus of opinion is option 2, does any one have a stub axle for
sale?

I managed to refit my old oil seal as Richard had forgotten the outer one
when I got the kit. It's still working fine. The inner one was replaced as I
had that on on hand.

Why not just get a new seal if thats all thats wrong and it won't go to the
suppliers and back?

i dont think you can just replace the seal. looking at haynes you have to
cut off the copper thrust collar, pull the bearing out to get to the seal
and then press in the bearing and press on a new thrust collar.
this is the seal inside the stub axle which had i not damaged it would not
have to replace.
