hi, wondered if anyone could help, i have a 300 series tdi disco that needs help! it starts ok but can't get it to go above 10 miles an hour no matter what gear i'm in, really struggles and feels like something is blocked, could it be a turbo problem?

tell us more: since when do you have the disco, auto/manual, year, mileage? how did it start, all of a sudden? smoke, can you rev it in neutral, can you reach 4000 rpm? any recent events, service, part replacement?

the more you tell us the closer we can get with the answers ...

Have you checked the throttle cable at the throttle end? Mine used to unwind itself on the adjuster giving me about 1/4 throttle. I made up a clip to hold in in place and it was cured.

hi, thanks for your responses, have had a guy look at it and he thinks it could be a pipe from or the seal round the turbo that is the problem, it revs to just over 3000 rpm but is blowing blueish smoke. any other ideas greatfully recieved, especially if it is the seal about what possible damage has been done and what else i should be looking for, its a 1994 300 tdi and has done about 157000 miles, but lately has been running as smoothly as it was.

Identcal to the probs I had. Had everything checked, hoses, turbo, intercooler, lift pump. Turned out it was a knackerd injector pump:eek::eek: mega bucks. Havin a recon engine fitted now. Mine had done 198000miles.

Have you checked to see if there is enough fuel getting through?

I would be looking at the fuel sedimenter, changing the fuel filter, checking the function of the fuel lift pump and checking to see if there is fuel at the injectors.

Any tips on making up this clip, as mine has exactly the same problem, unwinding after around 10 miles of normal road driving.
I think I made it out of a car radio mounting bracket. Basically it pushed onto the top of the cable bracket and had a little 'tab' bent outwards to stop the plastic adjuster wheel turning itself. It worked perfectly
I don't have that Disco any more so can't photograph it. Not very helpful is it?

I've attached a very rough sketch of the clip from memory. It fitted by pushing it onto the cable bracket, the slot to the rear is big enough for the cable retaining nut to fit into and the bent out 'tabs' on the other side push down behind the plastic cable adjuster wheel, stopping it from unwinding by itself. No need to remove anything to fit it, just push it onto the bracket behind the adjuster..... hope this helps......
