Ok,if you have 3 wires at the yellow arrow you won't have a smart spider, it is Bosch DDS immobilisation. Looking from the back of the pump, probably easiest with a mirror you will see that black lump is held on by 2 shear headed bolts .You need to drill these out and remove the lump. Under the lump is the standard solenoid, using the wire that comes live when you key on, attach this direct to the solenoid. If it won't go then whip the plate off the timing cover, make sure the pump is going round. If it is remove the plunger, not forgetting you will have to stall it to stop.

Interesting that it is a VA - 1997 my, yet has DDS, In the past I've only seen WA - 1998my with DDS...
Ah I understand now so if I drill out the studs then the solenoid will be available.
Thanks I will attempt over the W/E if I get time away from chasing broken down tractors...

Yes the red was to try and point to areas where I would have liked clarification, now things are getting a little clearer I can see the light at the end of the tunnel either that or there IS a train coming./////

Be careful,

some of these guys will turn up and buy your new repaired wagon from Farmer jim and you will be stuck with the old tractor.

Cheers

Bu I am going to HIDE it once I get it to RUN and put a radio in the slot that is once I've thrown the 2 way radio OUT
well I just don't want farmer Jim calling me up every five minutes to fix yet another yokel sports car

Blimey a radio............

Next you will be asking about how to get the sub woofer speakers working in the rear door panel........

Cheers

OK, bit hazy cos its all a long time ago,(Like P38 RR's) but UK spec 1996 and 1997my manual 300TDI's all had smart spider, 1998 - WA chassis had DDS. The easy way to tell is to look on Microcat, which I can only do at work.
Unless its been in a dry climate its probably on its way with rust anyway. Shame, they are good trucks.

I will not have to worry about RUST the pig poo will stop any of that showing !! :)
Sound systems I am fine with and you mention "sub woofer speakers working in the rear door panel" you mean to tell me there ARE speakers in those doors :O

Well thanks for this information today I am off to my bed as I have to be at the crud 05;00 tomorrow
If I get time I will investigate all the options and revert back when I can

THANKS ALL NGT NGT.

Another thing to check is the cam belt hasn't snapped, take the oil filler cap off and get someone to crank the engine, if the rockers don't move then the cam belt has snapped and this will be why you have no fuel from the injection pump.

I have a disco which I can start on the key stop on the key and the RADIO works !!!!!! so who do I thank first or the most

WELL ALL of you for being there to help out where I needed it, I found the solenoid valve behind an electronic thingy magig which is now in a field about 100 meter away from the workshop ! when I cut the three wires one had a small white line which when the ign is on became live at 12v so this went to the solenoid and bingo the disco fired up straight away!!!! happy days are here again I can clean my car and just use the jalopy on the farm.
Mind you https://www.landyzone.co.uk/members/neilly.57186/ never mentioned about the hardness of those two said screws (and what a PITA to get a drill into them! but the trusty old 90* drill attachment purchased did the job

A very big thank you to you all for your assistance to the demented gnat......
