Hi guys, can't find any info on this, and wondered if you could help me out :).

Tried to take the manual box of for the fith time, and it wont come off! And not the kind of not quite doing it right won't come off either! It's loose and there's a gap between the bell housing and the flywheel housing, but it literally won't come off. Not even after tugging on it with a towrope attached to another landy!

Anyone have any ideas before I have to take it to a garage? Don't really want that as an option!

when you say there is a gap , how big, and is it even? av you got all the bolts ? have you done the tight one at the top bulkhead ... have you undone engine mounts so it gives more movement and access... it also helps if you pull engine forward with a engine lift , or block and tackle.:)

Nope, all the bolts are definitely off, ive counted 9, and can feel all the way round that they're all off. The gap was about 3mm all the way round, and so close after towing it, it was on by a thread, but getting back under it and trying to wiggle it off, it just slid back in :S

And yeah, engine mounts undone, and tried jacking the very front to keep it at the right angle, but no good!

The thing is, ive taken this off so many times in the past couple of weeks, i dont understand why its not coming off now! im sure im doing everything the same!

Cheers for the help though guys!

Tried multiple crowbars and chocks to no avail! and if 2.5T of wheel spinning Land rover cant tug it off, a crowbar isn't much good anyway!! Is it possible something may have bent or jammed?

Well if it wasn't bent before yu tried to rave it out on the end of a towrope. Then it prob is now.

Have you tried to put it back all the way on and then try it again GENTLY!! Also replace the bottom 3 bolts with 3x 5" lengths of threaded bar. As this keeps the gear box straight on the shaft as you slide it back.

Sounds like yu may have foulded the pushrod. or it's gone thru the selector fork and is now jammed.

ye agree, thought this when it was said, he put a tow rope on it...

Yeah i was thinking that! How would the push bar be fouled, and how would it stop the box coming out? Dont think it will have gone through the fork, as i welded on a reinforcement plate!

Yeah, tried putting it all back together, then apart again, and couldnt get it off!

was thinking it mite have gone thru fork and jammed??

You could take slave cylinder off and shine a torch in hole & see if you can figure out what's stopping it.

Failing that engine and gearbox out in one thru the engine bay. Un try it on the floor.

if you have tryed towing it with a 2 ton landy, then the chances of the above are very high, including a bent input shaft....

Pulling out the engine is the next plan. will make it much easier!

Well the slave is already off, so i'll go have a look inside!
