Hi all,as I'm new to the site i suppose i really should introduce myself,i go by the name of badger,I am 19,born and bred in oxford and have got myself an M reg 300tdi 3 door discovery.Ive worked as a steel erector/fabricator since i was 16,i then left that trade at 17 to follow my love of cars,i worked in a garage for a year and a half but the boss was like a ticking time bomb,i left there and somehow managed to get a job with the AA as the youngest roadside patrol in their history!!after a year of that i left to follow my aspirations for welding and fabrication, more accurately, tig welding and stainless/aluminum fabrication. enough about me,more about the landy!!i paid 900 of my hardest earnt cash for her and have had nothing but trouble, but i love it! the day it passed the mot, after some severe chassis and inner wing welding i might add.the engine decided to rev round to 7000rpm on its own engine oil,as you can imagine that was the end of that! undeterred i got a free engine from the bloke i brought the car from, which me and 6 of my friends fitted in 10 hours using a 2 poster ramp and a scaffold pole! now the engine was running,i had another starting and power loss problem, which i eventually traced back to corroded pipes on the fuel sender letting air in! anyway, after making a stainless snorkel and straight through stainless exhaust, relocating the washer bottle to behind the headlights and moving m own carbon air box to the bulkhead out of the way,i drove her around getting her stuck in all sorts of places only to be recovered by my good mate in his defender90. ive done a few more things such as diff guards and removing the antiroll bars.she already has a 2 inch lift on the rear but after my latest escapade with the back end i will be doing a 5 inch lift with some silly big wheels.all because i can. now for the next stage of it all.after building a frame in the boot space to house tools, aux. battery and sub and amp.i stumbled across a bobtailed range classic and though.i could do that! and that is what i did,the next day i stripped the interior, remove fuel tank etc etc, marked it up ,measured 5 time then cut the back of,losing 17 inches of over hang in the process!i then cut the chassis legs of,cut a slit on 3 sides of both the remaining chassis legs and lifted them up to replicate the original curve of the legs.these were then plated with 5mm steel plate all around to make sure it wasnt going anywhere soon.then using 4 inch square box i made up a new rear cross member and welded that in,then plated the open ends of the chassis legs, the new cross member is now level with the new shortened back.the pictures at the bottom of this very long thread are what i have accomplished in 3 days flat! so please guys, comments, good or bad are much appreciated.i hope i haven't bored you all to death with my week long essay but at least you know who i am and what i do now!enjoy!
