My Disco brakes are red hot. The discs cannot be touched by hand because of the heat. I don't brake hard. Is this a common prolem or can you suggest what it might be?
 
probably yer caliper pistons are partially siezed and not retracting properly, leaving the pads in permanent gontact with the disc.
 
Sounds like seized brake calipers mate.

Strip the pads out and then free up the pistons of the caliper and add some copperslip gease to help stop them doing it again ;)

Jack the foker up and see if they are free or not, spin the wheel, then press the brake and see if it sticks on, unlikely that both calipers have siezed pistons, so I would go for the pads siezed into the calipers. Knock out the pins and get them out grind a smidgen off the sides, copaslip and refit. might need new pins tho.

On rare occasions I have seen the breather on the master causing this, just make sure the cap breather is not blocked.
 
I've now changed the master cylinder and had the brakes stripped down at great expense. Sod me - the discs are still glowing hot even after I've stoped without using the brakes at all.

What is going On!???????????? Even my independant LR specialist is at a loss.:confused:

Ok try running it with the vacuum on the servo disconnected, you will have ****e brakes so be carefull, but lets see if it still does it.

If you have done the brakes then I have to presume that somebody made sure the brake pedal itself is not binding in the pedal box.

The other thing that comes to mind is the servo itself, if its the direct type that bolts onto the servo then I have seen the intermediate piston/rod that transfers the movement from the pedal to the master cylinder siezing, or even the spring is broken. This means you press the pedal but when released the master is still held on a bit, however you should have picked that up when you jacked it up as I asked you to.
