help. gotta 300tdi disco. drove 40 miles on m.way without using brakes. when i tried to stop pedal was solid. nearly ---- myself. aa towed me home but had no idea. i found a vaccum pipe from air filter housing to abs unit off. replaced this and brakes have been fine since but too scared to go on m.way again. has anyone any answers for me. be very grateful.

Servo brakes require a vacuum (via the vacuum pump) to help minimise the pressure you need to apply when braking. If the pipe had come off, the vacuum would have been lost making the pedal hard. As long as the pipe has been refitted all should be ok.

throw a clip on the pipe to secure it, also while your there check the condition of it to see if there is any perishing, if so replace it!.
