disco auto box

I am working on reinstalling my auto box back in the Disco, however I have some questions regarding the torque converter, which is giving me nightmares, i really need help
How do you know when placing the torque converter on the shaft that it’s fully connected on the gearbox shaft?
Is there a measurement I need from the face of the gearbox back to the torque converter?
How do you keep it on the shaft when installing the box back unto the engine?
How do you line the hole on the converter with the holes in the fly wheel?
When you connected the bolts through the starter to the converter is the converter easy to move? Or should it move?
I have read loads about doing this job but can not find any advice regarding the questions……………………please any help

To install the convertor, just push it in and keep spinning it, you'll feel it locate on the splines If its not fully home, the gearbox wont mate fully on the engine. DON'T be tempted to pull the gearbox in with a bellhousing bolt. Sorry I don't know what measurement there should be or even if there is one, I do it by feel as all technicians do.

To keep it on the splines, dont let the front of the box tilt too far forwards, keep the box level or slightly tail down.

Before you put the box in, turn the engine till one of the torque convertor bolt holes line up with the access hole, put the box in and fit all the bellhousing bolts. To line the torque convertor up, there is an access hole in the bottom of the bellhousing which is covered by a plate held on with 3 8mm bolts. Remove the plate and you can turn the convertor with your fingers, I also use the access hole to fit the bolts, not the starter hole, you'll find its easier.

When one of the bolts is in, leave it loose and turn the engine till the next hole lines up, then fit the next bolt, again leave it loose, keep doing this till all the bolts are in then fully tighten all of them.
