Disco almost swamped by rising tide

Recovering my RIB off the beach on Wednesday, the tide was coming in fast and the Easterly swell caused the waves to lap around my rear wheels. Because the tide was coming in quickly, the waves soon reached my front wheels. When I tried to pull away, my rear wheels just bogged down and I became well and truly stuck.

Cutting a long story short, a fellow boat angler came to my rescue with his LR Defender and a big strop and shackle. If he hadn't of been nearby, my Disco would have been completely sunk by the tide.

I've learned a big lesson, and that is not to get my wheels into the waves in the first place. I should have used a strong rope to pull the trailer and boat out of the sea. My rescue mate said that I should have reversed the Disco and trailer a further couple of feet before putting the tranny into forward and pulling away. Are there any other useful driving tips for getting out of situations like this?

get a winch and a ground anchor, proper sand tyres (xcls are good), lower your tyre pressures to give a larger footprint

NEVER EVER try outrunning the tide, unless you want to die!

Dont get yourself into that kind of situation. and ensure you have a lifejacket and distress flares available. Which, of course you will have coz of your rig?
At the end of the day, your landie is just a vehicle, your life is more important.

Heard a story a few weeks ago about a bloke in a freelander that did the same thing. Only difference was there was nobody about to give him a tug and it was two tides later when he finally got it out.
