Disco 5?

Hi,

After some info on the disco 5. We’re needing a bigger car ideally 7 seats and this is on the list.

It seems to tick all the boxes for what we need, so after some expert opinions.

I’m currently in a JAG XFS but I’ve been after a land rover for a while and we now need a bigger family car.

I’ve read some bad reviews RE Landrovers previously, but I know you Can get bad reviews for any car.

ideally I’d be looking at a HSE and prob 2017 onwards with the budget.

Any advice welcome.

Folks generally only bother to mention bad experiences, not often you'll see a post saying great car never have any problems with it!!

yeah that’s my thinking too. Is there anything specific to look out for?

I’m thinking the 3.0L is better considering the size of the car?

Some of the SE’s aren’t actually that much difference to the HSEs that I’m seeing too.

The 3.0L V6 Lion engine in the D4 is known to suffer serious engine issues, and I believe this engine could well be plagued by the same issues. I'd go for the slightly less powerful but more reliable 2.0L.

I normally go for the SE versions of LR vehicles, as they're almost HSE spec, without the HSE prices. Check the equipment lists of both, and see if the SE has enough to keep you happy. I'd avoid lower specs than SE, as people like high spec vehicles, so lower spec models loose more money.

You also have to look at future resale value, the D5 is pretty much derided by most in the land rover world, same as the disco sport, does not stop people buying them though!
I to have heard the 3.0l version suffers from same issues as sdv6 in the d4, also lr themselves are saying if you do short runs you neeed the 2 litre as the dpf cannot get hot enough on the larger engines model.
Again isseus with buying any large diesel engined car is the future for diesels is unknown.

I must admit. If I had the finances to buy a new or low mileage second hand D5, then I actually buy a used Tesla Model X, as it's got almost the same space as the D5, but none of the costs of ownership and is free from any future diesel restrictions.

I don’t think my budget will stretch that far unfortunately . Re-sale wise I’d prob PCP it and keep for 3 years.

we’re basically needing 7 seats and a big boot and the majority of 7 seaters end up with a tiny boot when using the full seats or look like a minibus

it would be a mixture of long 45mins or so) and short journeys In a daily basis.

I was discounting the 2.0L as it seems More thirsty and more expensive on tax, but sounds like it’s worth considering.

It is tough with diesels currently as you say, but I’m hoping things won’t change much in 3 years or so

Check the condition, service history, and what the warranty is like.

Do not forget land rover 2nd hand vehicles are not covered by landrovers own warranty, it is a third party company!
